I was writing about you.

Words of mine.

This is the most extraordinary film I have seen this year. The way in which Trier depicts the anticipation of two very different characters as the world comes to an end is what impressed me the most. Although their experience is inconceivable for us, the whole film is impressively realistic and totally unmatched to your average ‘end-of-the-world’ film. Trier almost forces you to choose which character you would be and how their behaviour relates in any way to your own. Do you cherish life enough to freak out completely at the mere thought of the world ending, becoming obsessed with the very idea of it? Or would you relish in its power, being at one with the slow process of its materialisation because it goes hand in hand with your own unhappiness?

I have never experienced such a strong combination of physical and emotional feelings in response to a film. Oh and Charlotte Gainsbourg is astounding…..
